Speech/Language Therapy

The power of communication leads to the power to succeed, to build self-confidence, to achieve goals, to express love. The ability to create speech and manipulate language is a highly-refined skill which takes time to learn and perfect. Whether it is your child whose “baby-talk” has lasted longer than you think is appropriate, or a parent who has suffered a traumatic brain injury, a stroke, or a serious illness, the Rehab Center has programs designed to help — to lead you to success, self-confidence, and freedom.

Speech and language therapy is provided to both children and adults enabling them to reach their optimal level of communication or swallowing function. We offer effective treatment for clients with disorders that include :

  • Language
  • Neurological
  • Motor Speech
  • Fluency
  • Voice
  • Swallowing
  • Hearing
  • Auditory Perceptual

Special Programs Include:

Aquatic Speech Therapy – Our Speech Pathologists are trained in providing aquatic speech therapy. This can be effective for clients who exhibit problems with voicing, respiration, and volume-control, oral hypersensitivity or hyposensitivity, motor speech disorders (developmental or aquired apraxia of speech, dysarthria, and articulation delays/disorders), focusing and attending, pervasive developmental disorders, and other clinical difficulties. It may be used with children and adults with and without neuromotor limitations.

Vital Stim – the Rehab Center has the Speech Language Pathologists trained and certified to perform Vital Stim electrical stimulation for swallowing disorders. This is the newest, state of the art treatment technique for swallowing disorders, and we are seeing exceptional results based on pre- and post-treatment Modified Barium Swallow Studies. Results are seen in significantly less time than with traditional swallowing therapy.

Deep Pharyngeal Neuromuscular Stimulation (thermal neuromuscular re-education of movement) is a therapeutic program that restores muscle strength and reflexes within the pharynx for improved, efficient swallow function. Rehab Center Speech Language Pathologists are trained and certified in this treatment technique. This is a systematized treatment which directly stimulates the pharyngeal musculature with specifically progressive and accountable techniques and has been shown to have a dramatic effect upon restoration of the swallow function, improving quickly the redirective / reflexive cough and improving vocal quality through efficient vocal fold adduction function.

Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (ES) is an adjunct therapeutic modality which enhances other treatment effects used in the facial muscle exercise program. It is used as a conservative treatment technique which promotes, maintains and / or preserves the integrity of the muscle and its functional components. ES is used in conjunction with oral / facial icing techniques, facial massage, lingual / labial oral motor exercises and articulation therapy. The regimen is used for patients who exhibit a labial / facial flaccidity and / or oral phase dysphagia.

Voice – we offer evaluations and treatment using our SonaSpeech Program which allows us to obtain objective data regarding vocal parameters and provide the patients with visual feedback about their performance.

Autism Spectrum Disorders – we provide evaluations and treatment for children who are in this diagnostic category. We have a variety of blended treatment techniques and emphasis on visual learning schedules, etc., based upon what appears most appropriate for each individual child.

Aural Rehab for Cochlear Implant Clients is another service which we offer. Programs are available for children and adults.

Hearing Screenings are available for any individual who requests that service.

Licensed and Certified ASHA specialists provide education and treatment.
